Weekend Review | 17-19 October 🏏🏐⚽️

It was another weekend packed with school sporting excellence and the Saints Water Polo Invitational provided the perfect stage for the best in the country to shine. In the Girls’ section, St Stithians showed incredible determination to outlast St Anne’s in a nail-biting final, claiming the trophy after a series of standout performances throughout the tournament. The Saints girls displayed grit and composure under pressure, capping off a tournament to remember.

On the Boys’ side, Bishops went one better than last year, finally lifting the coveted title after an intense showdown in the final. Their blend of pace, precision, and teamwork proved unstoppable as they made history at the Saints Invitational.

Meanwhile, on the cricket front, Waterkloof reaffirmed their dominance by regaining the Wildeklawer T20 title with a commanding all-round display. Their exceptional fielding and clinical batting proved decisive, earning them another piece of silverware in what’s been a standout season for the Pretoria powerhouse.

Over on the football field, the School of Excellence once again lived up to its name in the GDL, showcasing why they remain one of the most exciting youth football academies in the country. Their technical brilliance and composure under pressure underlined a weekend of top-tier performances across all sports.

Even as the year draws to a close, there’s no slowing down as we gear up for another blockbuster week of school sports! All eyes turn to the Switch Energy Schools SA20 Volume 2 Cricket taking place at St Stithians on Thursday and Friday, 23 & 24 October, where the next generation of cricketing stars will showcase their skills in an electrifying T20 showdown.

In Paarl, young athletes will take centre stage at the Primary Schools Curro Podium Athletics Meet at Dal Josaphat, also happening 23 & 24 October, where future track and field stars will look to make their mark.

And to wrap up the weekend, GDL Football returns on Sunday, 26 October, bringing fans another exciting round of action as teams continue their charge toward the business end of the season.

#TimetoSHINE✨- October Spotlight

This month’s second feature in the MONTHLY SPOTLIGHT on SuperSport Schools is Ryan Young

Young has firmly stamped his mark on schoolboy cricket this season with a standout performance and leadership at Jeppe High School for Boys in Johannesburg. He produced a superb 127 off 123 deliveries, an innings that highlighted his maturity, shot selection, and ability to perform under pressure. Under his captaincy, Jeppe launched their campaign at the Oppenheimer Michaelmas Cricket Week with confidence and intent, setting the tone for a strong season ahead.

From making his first-team debut in Grade 8 to celebrating his 100th cap in 2025, Young’s rise has been built on consistency and dedication. Drawing inspiration from batting greats like Joe Root and Quinton de Kock, he has modelled his game on patience, timing, and technical precision. As he continues to lead Jeppe into major competitions such as the Gauteng Lions League and the Switch Energy Schools SA20 Volume 2, Young stands out as one of South African school cricket’s brightest emerging talents.
