Feast of Sporting Action!
This Winter season’s IPT’s gave us sports lovers a wide variety of school provincial sport to enjoy, with multiple rugby, netball and hockey tournaments taking place all around the country! The country’s best school athletes were given the honour of representing their provinces and competing on a national stage. IPT’s are an opportunity for the stars of tomorrow get their chance to compete against the best, it’s a good indicator to see who has what it takes to go on and possibly have a professional career in sports.
There were a lot of memorable moments, like the Southern Free State Girls hockey team winning the U18 SASHOC A-Section IPT on home soil in Bloemfontein and some less memorable moments, like the Western Province U16 Grant Khomo Week team getting booted from the main match due to not adhering to SARU Transformation rules, although clearly being the best team there.
Some provinces dominated more than others, like the Western Cape, with Willows winning the U18 SASN Telkom Junior Championships in Netball, Western Province U18 winning their fourth consecutive Craven Week title in rugby and Western Province U18A winning the Boys U18 SASHOC IPT in hockey. Showing once again why the Western Cape remains a sporting force.
After the IPT’s a select few of the players are then picked for National and Team of the Tournament squads, which is an even greater achievement and shows who the cream of an exceptional crop is. This year’s IPT’s put a lot of players on the map and we should watch out for some future Spar Proteas, SA Men’s & Women’s hockey players and Springboks in a few years time.

Back 2 School! - Coming up on 216
The end of Winter IPT’s means that schools are back from their Winter holiday and ready to represent their schools on the field and courts again. The Winter season isn’t quite over yet luckily, with more rugby, hockey and netball coming your way on the #SuperSport Schools app and LIVE on channel 216.
