Weekend Wrap-Up: Oakdale’s Charge, Montana Magic & Hilton’s Hockey Blitz 🏉⚽🏑
Another action-packed weekend on SuperSport Schools delivered everything from rugby fireworks to rising netball stars and hockey masterclasses.
In the King Price Derby Series, Oakdale laid down a serious marker with a commanding 50-7 win over Outeniqua in Riversdale. The team’s defensive steel and clinical finishing proved too much for the visitors, as Oakdale’s tactical kicking and territorial pressure paved the way for a memorable win. Rondebosch and Wynberg Boys’ also reignited their iconic southern suburbs rivalry in a tightly contested encounter that saw the hosts edge the visitors 38-33 in a thrilling finish on Friday morning.
In Gauteng, Hoërskool Montana joined the likes of Affies Meisies, Garsfontein and Menlopark in the prestigious Gauteng Jubilee Knockout competition. Montana claimed an impressive 26–20 win over Oos-Moot in the final, showing excellent composure in the closing minutes. Across the age groups, the tournament continues to provide a platform for emerging talent with several U16 and U15 teams also making strong claims for provincial honours.
On the astro, Hilton College turned on the style in their first team hockey clash against Northwood. The KZN giants triumphed 5–3 in a high-scoring encounter, led by a ruthless second-half showing. Jesse Innes was the standout performer, bagging a brace and controlling the midfield tempo, while Northwood fought valiantly through Ethan de Kock’s clinical drag flicks. With over 5,000 fans tuned in across the SuperSport Schools platforms, this fixture showed once again why Hyundai Friday Nite Lights is a must-watch.
Coming Up on SuperSport Schools
We turn our attention to a bumper weekend of sport from 14–15 June, with top school teams competing across codes and provinces.
The DStv Schools Netball Challenge Gauteng leg takes place at EG Jansen, with two full days of high-intensity matches showcasing the depth of talent across the province.
On the rugby front, SDC Noordvaal Cup action continues with Rustenburg taking on Noordheuwel in what’s set to be a physical and tactical battle.The King Price Derby Series returns in full force with three classic rivalries lighting up Saturday: Kearsney host St Stithians, Kingswood clash with long-time foes St Andrew’s College and Wynberg welcome Paul Roos Gimnasium to the Cape. Expect fireworks, passion and school pride at its peak.
Finally, Gauteng Development League football takes the spotlight on Sunday, 15 June, with four junior clashes featuring Kaizer Chiefs and Panorama as future stars continue their journey in one of South Africa’s most competitive youth leagues.

This month’s feature is Katlego Malebana

Malebana is already making her mark on South African football. A product of the Gauteng Women’s Development League and Mamelodi Sundowns’ youth system, she was loaned to Tuks during the 2024 Hollywoodbets Super League season, where she impressed with her maturity and skill. Her standout performances earned her a place in the SuperSport Schools Class of 2024 and the prestigious GSport4Girls School Sport Star of the Year award.
Malebana’s rapid rise continues this year, with a call-up to the senior Banyana Banyana squad by coach Desiree Ellis, following her participation in the U17 COSAFA Championship. She also led South Africa to victory at the CAF African Schools Football Tournament and capped off 2024 by helping Tuks win the inaugural IberCup South Africa. Her journey reflects the growing success of youth development in women’s football and signals a bright future for the national team.

This month’s feature in the June SPOTLIGHT on SuperSport Schools is Alakhe Mdluli

Mdluli has made an impressive transition from school star to international prospect as he joins Eswatini’s squad for the 2025 COSAFA Cup. A former captain of Glenwood High School in Durban, Mdluli was called up to represent Eswatini’s national football team, bringing leadership and talent forged on South African school fields.
His COSAFA pedigree was confirmed at the 2024 COSAFA U20 tournament, where he earned Player of the Match honours after scoring two goals and providing an assist in Eswatini’s win over South Africa U20 . Now plying his trade at senior international level, Mdluli offers attacking flair, composure in big games, and the kind of collegiate tenacity that makes him a player to watch as Eswatini compete in regional football’s premier tournament.
