Easter Weekend is around the corner, and that can only mean one thing…festival season is here! Some of the country’s top schools will take to the field, court, and turf for a jam-packed week of action at the Standard Bank Easter Sports Festivals. From 16–21 April, the oldest Easter festival in the country, the Saints Sports Fest brings together elite talent across hockey, rugby, squash, tennis, netball, and football in one of the most diverse and exciting school events on the calendar.
That’s not all! The 21st edition of the KES Easter Festival returns from 19–21 April with fast-paced hockey and hard-hitting rugby, while the country’s top rugby talent will also be on show at the Kearsney and St John’s College Easter Rugby Festivals, both running from 17–21 April. Whether you’re in the stands, on the couch, or streaming on the go, don’t miss a moment of the action, only on SuperSport Schools!

St Mary's DSG, Kloof, delivered an exceptional performance to clinch the Standard Bank St Mary's Waverley Festival title, defeating HMS Bloemhof 1-0 in a riveting final on 6 April 2025. This victory marks their third championship in the tournament's history, adding to their previous wins in 2007 and 2018.
Under the guidance of coach Nolwazi Nkabinde, the team showcased remarkable teamwork and resilience throughout the tournament. They dominated Pool C, securing six wins out of seven matches, and advanced through the knockout stages with notable victories over Paarl Gimnasium and Eunice. The final's decisive goal came from forward Jamie da Silva, who, despite being surrounded by defenders, skillfully maneuvered into the circle to score. Director of Hockey, Caryn Springate, praised the team's unity and determination, highlighting contributions from players like captain Nicola Forbes and goalkeeper Ziyanda Mchunu.

This month’s feature in the March SPOTLIGHT on SuperSport Schools is Xander Smit

Grey College's captain, Smit, has been instrumental in leading his team to notable successes on the rugby field. In a recent match against Jeppe High School for Boys during the NMI Toyota Noord Suid Tournament, Smit's exceptional support play resulted in a hat-trick of tries, exemplifying his leadership and skill.
Smit's rugby pedigree is distinguished, his father, Philip Smit, earned five caps for the Springboks in 1997 and represented the South African Sevens team in 1998. Xander's own journey includes impressive performances for Grey's U17 sevens team, contributing to their High Schools Sevens Series Championship title. As captain, his dedication and prowess continue to inspire his teammates and uphold Grey College's esteemed rugby legacy.
