Closing the Winter Season
Part 2 of the Summer Season Incoming!
Bye Bye Winter!
This past weekend we officially closed the door on the 2023 School Winter Sports season and it was finished off in impeccable fashion! In the Premier Interschools fixture between Bishops and Rondebosch, Bosch left it to the final minute of the match to beat their arch rivals 36-35, avenging their loss to Bishops in June. Staying in the Cape, the FNB Classic Clash was between Wynberg Boys’ and SACS, a cagey affair, however a strong Wynberg side separated themselves at the end with a 36-14 win.
We were also treated to the Durbanville Interskole derby between Stellenberg High and HS Durbanville where the schools competed in Rugby, Hockey (Boys and Girls) and Netball. Stellenberg won 21-12 in rugby and 4-1 in Girls hockey, while Durbanville claimed bragging rights in the Boys hockey with a 4-2 win, and netball, winning that battle 41-25.
With the exception of a few 7’s Rugby tournaments, netball fast 5’s and hockey festivals, we close the chapter on the Winter season, but it’s not quite the end school sports this year, as we look ahead to the Summer Sports Season. There is a ton to already start looking out for as we have some Athletics meets and Cricket fixtures and tournaments on the horizon, we’ve already gotten into the thick of the football and basketball seasons. Catch all of the Summer Sports you care about most on the #SuperSportSchools app and channel 216!

#HereforHer Award Winners
For those who may have forgotten, August was Women’s Month and last week SuperSport held an awards ceremony to honour all the amazing women who have helped fly the SuperSport flag high! SuperSport Schools are proud to say that two of our freelance camera operators Merceydez Modisakeng and Adelaide Moeng were given awards for being on the crew that broadcasted the Netball World Cup in Cape Town from 28 July - 6 August.
What’s even more exceptional about this, was that it was the first time that an all female broadcasting crew brought us the coverage of a World Cup, from the producers, camera crew and presenters.
Both women have Videography backgrounds, with Adelaide being introduced to it during her days as a student at Wits, where she also worked at VOW FM before getting her opportunity to shoot live sports for SuperSport. Merceydez was introduced to the world of broadcasting at 14, when she joined a broadcast ministry church in her hometown of East London. Both women share the sentiment of hoping that their awards will inspire more girls and women to enter the world of sports and production, and that opportunities for women in sports and sports media will continue to grow, reaching new heights!
