Closing 2023!

A look back at the year that was

The Year in review

As we reflect on the accomplishments of 2023, I must emphasize the crucial role of teachers and sports coaches in the development of young athletes in South Africa. SuperSport Schools, through its broadcasts and streams, has proudly showcased their invaluable contribution. These mentors are not just trainers; they are the guiding force behind the nurturing of athletic talent and personal growth of their students. Their impact goes beyond the field, instilling discipline, teamwork, resilience, and fair play in young individuals.

This year, thanks to their efforts, we've witnessed remarkable strides in athletics, with events like the NWU Top 30 and Curro Podium Athletics Meetings. Women's sports has seen a significant boost through tournaments like the St Mary's Hockey Fest and the Menlopark Netball Tournament. The Amanda Coetzer and Gerrie Berner Tennis Tournaments have continued to honor the legacy of our tennis greats.

In rugby, The Craven Week and Grant Khomo Week have been instrumental in shaping future national stars, while basketball has grown through tournaments like the Val Fowler Girls Basketball Tournament and Inanda Hoops.

The support of organizers, volunteers, and sponsors has been indispensable. Their combined efforts have made these events a reality, offering platforms for young athletes to shine and compete.

As we broadcast these events on SuperSport Schools, we hope to not only recognize these young athletes but also to inspire future generations. These tournaments represent more than competition; they are celebrations of hope and dreams.

I extend my gratitude to everyone involved – the athletes, coaches, families, schools, our team at SuperSport Schools, and our audience. Let's continue to nurture young talent and elevate school sports in Africa. Wishing you all a festive season filled with joy and a prosperous New Year.

Warm regards,

Kelvin Watt
CEO, SuperSport Schools
