Weekend Wrap-Up: Derby Day Drama, Hockey Heat & Hilton Dominance 🏉🏑

It was another thrilling weekend on SuperSport Schools, headlined by a nail-biting King Price Derby Series clash between Grey College and Affies in Bloemfontein. Grey edged the contest 42–37 in a high-scoring affair, showcasing their trademark backline brilliance. Lamla Mgedezi and Ethan Adams led the charge for the hosts, while Affies pushed them all the way thanks to composed performances from Charl Els and Stefan McDonald.

Hilton College continued their fine form with a convincing 53–15 win over Glenwood at the Sharks High Schools’ Rugby Day. After an early deficit, Hilton surged back with seven tries, powered by the physicality of Emmanuel Dankway and the sharp distribution of Zander Vorster. The result capped off a well-rounded team effort at Hilton College’s Gilfillan field.

In girls’ hockey, Rhenish Girls’ High made a bold statement with a 6–0 win over St Cyprian’s, driven by standout performances from Leah du Plessis and Pippa Viljoen. Herschel clinched bragging rights in the Herschfield Derby with a clinical 2–0 win over Springfield, while Paarl Girls’ High and Stellenberg both kept their dominant runs intact with emphatic wins. St Patrick’s College claimed the SPAR Sisonke and Ugu regional title in the latest leg of the 2025 SPAR Girls' Hockey Tournament, earning their place in the provincial finals later this year.

On the boys’ side, Jeppe High School for Boys retained the prestigious Aitken Cup, becoming back-to-back champions with another commanding run. Their victory against St Stithians College underlined their reputation as a hockey powerhouse in Gauteng and one of the top schoolboy teams in the country.
